The Beginning of the Beginning

So I've finally gotten around to doing this - I've bummed around my house LONG enough and have finally decided to do something productive. (The creation of this blog)

Most of what I post will most likely be stuff that friends show me or that I'm especially into, but don't be surprised if there's some pretty random stuff at times. Most blogs I'll keep short and sweet with just some descriptions and links, but I may get carried away at times if I'm really into something.

(Some technical stuff...)
Just as a heads up most of the links I use I've found at various pirated websites. I find torrents annoyingly slow and take pretty much forever to download anything but I do have Azureus (Vuze) installed and I use it from time to time if I can't find links anywhere else. Not sure how good it is for my computer, though...

As far as user-friendly download-able stuff on the internet, I use beemp3.com. The layout change of Project Playlist was a serious blow to my heart, as now you're not able to get the link to the actual mp3 embedded as an html. I've had friends show me sadsteve.com, but so far I've only found some obscure remixes when searching for well-known songs. (I've gotten lucky a few times, but not enough for me to recommend it.)

ANYWAY
I suppose the best place to start is the beginning, SO -

1. If you haven't seen this, stop everything and go watch it:
We Are the World 25 - Various Artists

Although there has been some controversy about whether or not this song should have been re-made, I definitely think the new version stays true to the one Jackson and Richie wrote 25 years ago. However, the rap section and the variety of new talent (or lack thereof according to some) definitely serves as a testament to how timeless this idea is. The song can be downloaded on iTunes (as well as the video) and I definitely recommend getting it.
(P.S. On a less-mature quirky note I'm a little obsessed with Akon and he makes an appearance.)

* Also try the Sporcle after you've watched it*

2. Recycled Romance (Valentine Mashup) - Norwegian Recycling

Samples:
1. John Mayer - Your Body Is A Wonderland
2. Take That - Back For Good
3. Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All
4. Usher feat. Alicia Keys - My Boo
5. Alicia Keys - No One
6. Craig David feat. Mos Def - 7 Days (Remix)
7. Coldplay - The Scientist
8. Taylor Swift - Fifteen
9. Radiohead - Creep
10. Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You
11. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
12. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
13. Savage Garden - Crash And Burn
14. Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame
15. Blondie - Call Me

This was put on YouTube on V-Day by user cappapie with a link to his blog, thepeterbullblog. I clicked the link and it's pretty legit. It's pretty much an extension of what I'm doing here. He's really into Norwegian Recycling (we would be great friends) and has a link to all the NR songs available for download (if you don't have them) ((which you already should.)) If not, get on that.

3. "Bangarang" & "Upular" (Among others) - Pogo

On this guy's blog (peterbull) there's also a spotlight on upcoming masher Pogo, who samples from movies to create new music.

thepeterbullblog on Pogo - "Yesterday I was introduced to Pogo. He is a remixer/electronic music-producer who is known for his work recording small sounds from a single film or scene and sequencing them to form a new piece of music. He also makes videos to complement the audio. The result is a very magical, abstract, surrealistic and psychedelic piece of beautiful art!"

Definitely check out "Bangarang" on this guy's blog - (about halfway down)

...And check out his YouTube Channel - (where you can find Upular)
...And add him to your library on Last.fm. (Everyone should get Last.fm and download and use the Scrobbler. )

If you do have a torrent program, you can download his entire discography (as I'm obviously doing right now)

I'm kind of a little bit very much in love with his stuff.

4. "Wavin' Flag" - K'Naan (Alternate version w. David Bisbal)

This morning I was on facebook (surprise, surprise), and found this on a friend's wall. (Thank you Rakoc brothers.)

I guess we've seen the beginnings of the 2010 World Cup hype...! (Yay soccer!)

Mp3 Download

I also found another version with David Bisbal, a pop artist from Spain, which is also pretty legit.
This is actually the reason I decided to get on the blogging train, and obviously I got a little carried away!

All for now -

Stay classy,
Eliza
