An Epic Random Sample of a Lot of Random Epic Things
Saturday, February 27, 2010.
Children! All right, SO -
As a couple preface-type things -
1. This week I discovered the brilliance of Stuffit Expander (no idea why it didn't happen earlier), a program you can download for free and use to un-zip .rar files. I recommend getting it as it will come in handy for this blog. (At least this one)
2. You can use various websites to convert YouTube videos to mp3's, but this one works really well/quickly and will also be helpful this time around.
3. CHAS SHOWED ME STUMBLEUPON. Kind of irrelated to this blog, but it's a procrastinators goldmine. Everyone should get the toolbar and use it. I'm obsessed.
4. I have decided to use a system based on 5 *'s, to rate songs - * being the lowest and ***** the highest. (Dependant upon a combination of how much I like them/how new they are/how much you should download them)
(I think that's it...)
1. Lights - All Out *****
So a friend showed this to me via wall post and for those of you who don't live on a facebook mini-feed, this is probably new for you! Kind of reminds me of Jonah Hill meets 3OH!3. Hahaha. No but really. This is the YouTube link but I can't find an mp3 anywhere. This is where you use #2 from above. Plug in the link, the whole thing is pretty self-explanatory, and there you go! Enjoy.
2. Midd Kid - ???? (Haha) *****(mostly because it's scarily accurate)
So granted this is a YouTube phenom more than anything, but you all should see it because it's pretty friggen hilarious. Especially for all you lax-bro addicts. Again, use Media Converter if you want the mp3...
3. Remedy - Little Boots *****
So I found the Lady GaGa of the UK. She does the same electro-thing but I get the feeling she's slightly less out there, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, it's still really catchy. Haven't checked out her other stuff fully, but feel free to do so and lemme know! The video for this is also pretty cool.
Chas gave me a link to a dance playlist with 100 songs, and I listened to them all and paired it down to these - some of the first ones you might know, but there are some really good new ones, too -
1. When the Sun Comes Down (Radio Edit) - Dance Nation **
Such a classic, but I grabbed the mp3 anyway.
2. Evacuate the Dancefloor - Cascada **
Yeahh yeahhh I knowww. Again, didn't have it and decided to post the URL.
3. Morning After Dark (feat. Soshy) - Timbaland ***
(I know it's old, but I didn't have the mp3, so I grabbed it and thought you might want it, too.)
4. Opposite of Adults - Chiddy Bang ****
This is really fun! Also, MGMT's 'Kids' will never get old.
5. Never Leave You - Tinchy Stryder *****
And THIS is the Jay Sean/Jason Derulo of the UK! It's SUPER catchy, so don't play it too much - but like, do - because it's really good. (This version is kind of crappy quality, but I couldn't find better and I looked for a while. You can get it on iTunes, but give me some time and I'll find a clearer version) ((The tin sound gets annoying in headphones))
6. Break Your Heart (feat. Ludacris) - Taio Cruz ***/****
Looodahhhh! (Oh, hey, Taio....) Anuthah good one.
7. Get Brain - Porter Robinson ***
Caveat - some of you might hate this. It's just straight techno. I included it because it was one of the more decent of the techno songs on the playlist. (It takes a bit to get started)
BUT When the beat kicks in at 1:13, oh man.
Personally, I'm into it. Remember, louder is better.
8. You Are - Rock City *****
This is so grooovinnn'! I'm a big fan of stuff like this/slowjamz/R&B. Again, the quality is kind of crappy, but I'm lookin', I'm lookin'...
9. Feels So Good - Deepside Deejays **
Continuing on the techno thing, this is apparently huge in Europe, as these guys are out of Romania. Again, use Media Converter.
10. Mysterious Girl - Amsterdam Avenue feat. Matteo ***
Again, groovin'. (Mixed by the Romanian guys) I also love dancehall-ish stuff, which is why this made the cut.
11. She Wolf - Shakira feat. T-Pain *****
So I'm kind of obsessed with this. As in it's been on repeat for a while. (Chas, you know me and my repeat...haha) I love Shakira, but I held back on being a huge fan of the original version mostly because I thought it needed something else IN it. Seemed kind of empty. Well done, T-Pain, WELL DONE. 1:30- 2:02. Great form.
12. Miss Everything - Sugababes (feat. Sean Kingston) *****
Sean Kingston can pull anything off! (And I'll look for a better quality file)
13. I Wanna Know (Bob Marley and MGMT) - Xaphoon Jones ***/****
I have a feeling that this is kind of the ultimate weed smoking mix? MGMT + Bob Marley? Well, you tell me. The mixing gets a little messy towards the end, but verrr nice all around.
14. Crazy Loop - ??? (Maybe the artist is Crazy Loop, too?) *
So this song is kind of annoying/obnoxious. But I really like the first 30 seconds, which is why it's on here. (But don't get too excited) I mean, it's okay, it just sounds like a way too techno-y Mika song. I'm sort of turned off by his voice, too, at times.
~~~
So obviously this blog has a lot of dance/hip-hop/pop stuff, but I thought I would give you guys some stuff that's completely different and very good.
I lot of you have heard of or have Bon Iver stuff already, (he's a little old), but for those of you who don't, here you go! He's an Indie/Rock artist who has a really unique eerie kind of sound to a lot of his stuff, and he's actually really good.
I, being your faithful internet downloader, have found a link to a copy of his entire album "For Emma, Forever Ago" released in February 2008. The file is in .rar format though, and can't be opened unless you have a copy of Stuffit Expander (which I have provided for you in a link - #1 at the very top) or a program like it. Go ahead and download the program and once it's open drag and drop the .rar downloaded file into the application. It's kind of magical.
Here's the link to "For Emma, Forever Ago"
My favorite track on this is "Skinny Love", mostly because it's one of the two songs I had on my computer before I got it together to get the whole album. It's amazingly pretty.
He also released an EP "Blood Bank" last winter with four songs on it, two of which I like (the other two I just haven't listened to enough - but no doubt their really good as well)
Here are the two I'm into -
Blood Bank
Woods
Lastly,
Because this is a music blog, I thought I would provide something for my fellow music/science kids out there, SO -
This is REALLY cool. Play along! It's fun.
P.S. He's the guy who sings Don't Worry Be Happy! Honestly? Who doesn't love that song?
If you've got some time on your hands, check out some other Bobby McFerrin videos - like this one - he's so good!
All for now,
These words are my own (from my heart flown),
KIDS
First, sorry the length of this resembles the Schindler's List extended version, but it's all good stuff, so nah worriez. You could/should do it in stages (because you're in school and don't have hours to waste on the internet like me). Be sure to watch all of #5 though - good stuff.
Alright, so a quick re-cap. (New stuff first)
1. "Coldest Winter" - Kanye West
Thanks, Chas! - It's pretty legit. I thought I had something out for our dear friend Mr. West after he made a fool of himself with that whole Taylor Swift shenanigan. For the rest of you, check out the video on Perez and get the mp3, too. I guess Kanye was/is really into the tribal thing - you can hear it in 'Coldest Winter' and definitely see it in the video of 'Love Lockdown'.
P.S. Speaking of Taylor Swift, (not really related to her performance though), the movie Valentine's Day had serious potential and turned out to be AWFUL. As in I watched it illegally online (of course) and almost shut it off it was so bad. So many great stars and such a crappy director. So basically, if you haven't seen it - don't - if you have, I'm sorry you so dutifully wasted 2+ hours of your life.
2. "Oh No!" - Marina And The Diamonds
(Thank you, Chris)
To be honest, I kind of thought it was slightly annoying the first go-round but by the second/third-ish time I realized it was surprisingly catchy. It kind of reminds me of a cross between the Ting Tings, Cindi Lauper, and Madonna (yeah....) Which is a good thing? Yes. Go get it kids!
3. "Solo" - IYAZ
Alright, so yeah - he sort of did it again...2 hit wonder? We'll see...
4. RemixNation Schtuff.
Yeah okay, SO. Our dear friend RXN has been producing some serious sub-par remixes lately. (With the exception of United State of Pop by DJ Earworm - obviously, because it's clearly pure genius)
Howevaahhhh
I've taken on the job of weeding out all the crap so you don't have to! There were actually a ton that just went up - so a lot of this is really new.
The GEMS:
"Whatcha Say vs Played Alive (DJ's from Mars Bootleg)" - Jason Derulo vs Safri Duo
I really really really really really love this A LOT. I think it's so original. And mixed so well. The techno part gets a little intense at times, (even for me) but I really think it's done really well.
"Say Ahh" - Swazy Baby (Trey Songz)
I'm a little too obsessed with this song. Fun Fact: In the video they're legit drinking nothing but Nuvo. It's supposed to look like a lipstick case and the top is the exact size of a shot glass. SMART, RIGHT?! Yeah. It's also way too delicious. It tastes like straight up candy which is probs why all theze mommas be gettin' dizzay.
The regular version is pretty much exactly the same as this remix, just without the first 40 sec. business.
"For You" - Restlife ft. Lil' Wayne
This is really really cool. A catchy melody can make any rap song SO much better. Prime example with this, which is fine by me! I also love Lil' Wayne. Do some research - he's actually pretty legitimate. Been in the business since he was 12. The end of "For You" reminds me of "Runaway Love" by Ludacris & Mary J.
"If We Ever Meet Again (Digital Dog Club Mix)" - Timbaland ft. Katy Perry
So if you don't know me that well I'm a huge fan of dance/techno remixes. No really. HUGE fan. Turn this UP. It's real legit.
"Hard (Jody Den Broeder Club Remix)" - Rihanna ft. Jeezy
Another good one. I heard the regular version on the radio the other day and was appalled at how slow it was. Remix is way better.
"Tik Tok (BarakVanunu Electro Mix)" - Ke$ha
This. Is. So. Good. You need bass, though. A TON of it. I go a little overboard with the JBL'z and the iTunes equalizer - just sayin'.
The somewhat less semi-precious:
"Rude Boy (Insane3Lik3 Remix)" - Rihanna
(I also really like the regular version. Good stuff for running.)
"Like A G6" - FM ft. The Cataracs & Dev
Haha. "Gettin Slizzard". Supah Funkay.
P.S. The Wavin' Flag FIFA Remix with David Bisbal is finally up on RXN. And you already have it! Chyea chyea.
5. Justin Bieber/ YouTube videos.
I KNOW. Just go with me on this one. This is a music blog, and this kid is really talented. I found these today...
This is of him singing to Esmée Denters - a girl that Justin Timberlake actually found and brought to stardom.
This is her video - she's pretty much amazing. She put a bunch of covers on YouTube, got a TON of fans, and JT brought her to the US.
This is JB performing an original. Granted the lyrics are sort of middle school, but the song is outrageously pretty.
I guess he's like 10 in this video. He's just messing around before bed, but HE'S SO GOOD. Slash an adorable little kid.
Usher found him and made him famous initially, and this is pretty funny - he's singing for him!
Enjoy all of this! - As it took me a good 2 hours to get all the links right...haha.
jk
lol
no but really
The Beginning of the Beginning
So I've finally gotten around to doing this - I've bummed around my house LONG enough and have finally decided to do something productive. (The creation of this blog)
Most of what I post will most likely be stuff that friends show me or that I'm especially into, but don't be surprised if there's some pretty random stuff at times. Most blogs I'll keep short and sweet with just some descriptions and links, but I may get carried away at times if I'm really into something.
(Some technical stuff...)
Just as a heads up most of the links I use I've found at various pirated websites. I find torrents annoyingly slow and take pretty much forever to download anything but I do have Azureus (Vuze) installed and I use it from time to time if I can't find links anywhere else. Not sure how good it is for my computer, though...
As far as user-friendly download-able stuff on the internet, I use beemp3.com. The layout change of Project Playlist was a serious blow to my heart, as now you're not able to get the link to the actual mp3 embedded as an html. I've had friends show me sadsteve.com, but so far I've only found some obscure remixes when searching for well-known songs. (I've gotten lucky a few times, but not enough for me to recommend it.)
ANYWAY
I suppose the best place to start is the beginning, SO -
Thursday, February 18, 2010.
1. If you haven't seen this, stop everything and go watch it:
We Are the World 25 - Various Artists
Although there has been some controversy about whether or not this song should have been re-made, I definitely think the new version stays true to the one Jackson and Richie wrote 25 years ago. However, the rap section and the variety of new talent (or lack thereof according to some) definitely serves as a testament to how timeless this idea is. The song can be downloaded on iTunes (as well as the video) and I definitely recommend getting it.
(P.S. On a less-mature quirky note I'm a little obsessed with Akon and he makes an appearance.)
* Also try the Sporcle after you've watched it*
2. Recycled Romance (Valentine Mashup) - Norwegian Recycling
Samples:
1. John Mayer - Your Body Is A Wonderland
2. Take That - Back For Good
3. Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All
4. Usher feat. Alicia Keys - My Boo
5. Alicia Keys - No One
6. Craig David feat. Mos Def - 7 Days (Remix)
7. Coldplay - The Scientist
8. Taylor Swift - Fifteen
9. Radiohead - Creep
10. Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You
11. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
12. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
13. Savage Garden - Crash And Burn
14. Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame
15. Blondie - Call Me
This was put on YouTube on V-Day by user cappapie with a link to his blog, thepeterbullblog. I clicked the link and it's pretty legit. It's pretty much an extension of what I'm doing here. He's really into Norwegian Recycling (we would be great friends) and has a link to all the NR songs available for download (if you don't have them) ((which you already should.)) If not, get on that.
3. "Bangarang" & "Upular" (Among others) - Pogo
On this guy's blog (peterbull) there's also a spotlight on upcoming masher Pogo, who samples from movies to create new music.
thepeterbullblog on Pogo - "Yesterday I was introduced to Pogo. He is a remixer/electronic music-producer who is known for his work recording small sounds from a single film or scene and sequencing them to form a new piece of music. He also makes videos to complement the audio. The result is a very magical, abstract, surrealistic and psychedelic piece of beautiful art!"
Definitely check out "Bangarang" on this guy's blog - (about halfway down)
...And check out his YouTube Channel - (where you can find Upular)
...And add him to your library on Last.fm. (Everyone should get Last.fm and download and use the Scrobbler. )
If you do have a torrent program, you can download his entire discography (as I'm obviously doing right now)
I'm kind of a little bit very much in love with his stuff.
4. "Wavin' Flag" - K'Naan (Alternate version w. David Bisbal)
This morning I was on facebook (surprise, surprise), and found this on a friend's wall. (Thank you Rakoc brothers.)
I guess we've seen the beginnings of the 2010 World Cup hype...! (Yay soccer!)
Mp3 Download
I also found another version with David Bisbal, a pop artist from Spain, which is also pretty legit.
This is actually the reason I decided to get on the blogging train, and obviously I got a little carried away!
Most of what I post will most likely be stuff that friends show me or that I'm especially into, but don't be surprised if there's some pretty random stuff at times. Most blogs I'll keep short and sweet with just some descriptions and links, but I may get carried away at times if I'm really into something.
(Some technical stuff...)
Just as a heads up most of the links I use I've found at various pirated websites. I find torrents annoyingly slow and take pretty much forever to download anything but I do have Azureus (Vuze) installed and I use it from time to time if I can't find links anywhere else. Not sure how good it is for my computer, though...
As far as user-friendly download-able stuff on the internet, I use beemp3.com. The layout change of Project Playlist was a serious blow to my heart, as now you're not able to get the link to the actual mp3 embedded as an html. I've had friends show me sadsteve.com, but so far I've only found some obscure remixes when searching for well-known songs. (I've gotten lucky a few times, but not enough for me to recommend it.)
ANYWAY
I suppose the best place to start is the beginning, SO -
1. If you haven't seen this, stop everything and go watch it:
We Are the World 25 - Various Artists
Although there has been some controversy about whether or not this song should have been re-made, I definitely think the new version stays true to the one Jackson and Richie wrote 25 years ago. However, the rap section and the variety of new talent (or lack thereof according to some) definitely serves as a testament to how timeless this idea is. The song can be downloaded on iTunes (as well as the video) and I definitely recommend getting it.
(P.S. On a less-mature quirky note I'm a little obsessed with Akon and he makes an appearance.)
* Also try the Sporcle after you've watched it*
2. Recycled Romance (Valentine Mashup) - Norwegian Recycling
Samples:
1. John Mayer - Your Body Is A Wonderland
2. Take That - Back For Good
3. Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All
4. Usher feat. Alicia Keys - My Boo
5. Alicia Keys - No One
6. Craig David feat. Mos Def - 7 Days (Remix)
7. Coldplay - The Scientist
8. Taylor Swift - Fifteen
9. Radiohead - Creep
10. Rihanna feat. Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You
11. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
12. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
13. Savage Garden - Crash And Burn
14. Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame
15. Blondie - Call Me
This was put on YouTube on V-Day by user cappapie with a link to his blog, thepeterbullblog. I clicked the link and it's pretty legit. It's pretty much an extension of what I'm doing here. He's really into Norwegian Recycling (we would be great friends) and has a link to all the NR songs available for download (if you don't have them) ((which you already should.)) If not, get on that.
3. "Bangarang" & "Upular" (Among others) - Pogo
On this guy's blog (peterbull) there's also a spotlight on upcoming masher Pogo, who samples from movies to create new music.
thepeterbullblog on Pogo - "Yesterday I was introduced to Pogo. He is a remixer/electronic music-producer who is known for his work recording small sounds from a single film or scene and sequencing them to form a new piece of music. He also makes videos to complement the audio. The result is a very magical, abstract, surrealistic and psychedelic piece of beautiful art!"
Definitely check out "Bangarang" on this guy's blog - (about halfway down)
...And check out his YouTube Channel - (where you can find Upular)
...And add him to your library on Last.fm. (Everyone should get Last.fm and download and use the Scrobbler. )
If you do have a torrent program, you can download his entire discography (as I'm obviously doing right now)
I'm kind of a little bit very much in love with his stuff.
